Scottish government urges Scots to talk to their partners about sex
A new website urges 20-40 year-olds to ‘ditch their inhibitions’, as part of a Scottish government campaign aimed at avoiding unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections.
Public Health Minister Shona Robison said:
‘We Scots may not have a reputation for talking about our feelings but there’s definitely a case for being more open when it comes to building successful relationships. People don’t need to wear their hearts on their sleeves, but we hope this campaign will encourage people to open up to their partners and talk about what they want from the relationship. Knowledge is power and the website launched today provides a wealth of help and information, in a lively, interactive and sometimes thought-provoking way.’
The website is the forerunner for a wider campaign, with the ultimate aim of reducing the number of unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. There will be two further campaigns aimed at encouraging the wider use of long-lasting, reversible contraception and the other at reducing rates of HIV.
This will be the biggest sexual health campaign in Scotland since the ‘tombstone’ HIV awareness adverts of the 1980s. The website alone cost approximately £78,000.
